Education, cocreated for better outcomes

This year’s International Day of Education draws attention to a critical idea: education delivers the greatest impact when it is  co-created . At Edgetechies, this is not a slogan. It is a practical approach shaped by years of working with schools, educators, young people, and public institutions to improve learning outcomes in real contexts. Education is not a side project for us. It is a core focus area that runs through our work in technology, business development, and capacity building, because systems that work better produce better results for learners and teachers alike. Moving Beyond Access Across Africa and other emerging markets, education conversations have evolved beyond access. The more pressing challenges today are  quality, relevance, administration, and outcomes . We have worked with schools struggling under fragmented systems, limited data visibility, and administrative overload. We have partnered with teachers who are committed to their students but constrain...

Classequip Our New Initiative Using Education to Transform Lives and Communities.

Nigeria, with her status as the highest population of black people in the world, and one of the highest populations of children of primary and secondary school age in the world holds immense potential. However, the education system is struggling to keep up with the demand of this youthful populace. According to UNESCO, Nigeria has one of the highest numbers of out-of-school children in the world.  Even for those who are in school, the conditions are often far from ideal.  In many public schools across Nigeria, for example, students face significant challenges that hinder their learning experience. Overcrowded classrooms, insufficient resources, and outdated facilities are just a few of the obstacles that these children confront daily.  Enter Classequip , our new initiative designed make a meaningful impact where it is needed most. Classequip is motivated by the belief in the power of education to transform lives and communities. That is why we want to use it to crea...

Empowering the Next Generation: Celebrating International Youth Day at Edgetechies

Celebrating Youth as Drivers of Innovation and Change Every year on August 12th, the world marks International Youth Day, celebrating the creativity, resilience, and contributions of young people across the globe. This year’s theme, “Youth as the Drivers of Innovation and Change,” resonates deeply with us at Edgetechies, especially through the work we do in mentoring, coaching, and capacity building. Empowering the Now, Not Just the Next At Edgetechies, we don’t see young people as “leaders of tomorrow.” We see them as active problem-solvers today. Their ideas, energy, and boldness are already reshaping industries, influencing culture, and leading social change. Our role is to help sharpen that potential and expand their impact. Mentorship and Capacity Building at the Core Our capacity-building work is rooted in the belief that access to mentorship, practical training, and leadership exposure is what helps youth move from intention to innovation. We’ve made it our mission to bridge tha...

What I Learned Taking a Nigerian EdTech Idea to the Global Stage by 'Damola Anjorin

Years ago circa 2015, I found myself standing among hundreds of brilliant young innovators in Philadelphia at the  Forbes Under 30 Summit . It was surreal, not just because I was one of only two Africans selected for sponsored participation, but because the path that got me there had been anything but predictable. It began with a problem I saw every day in Nigeria:  the gap between students who needed help and those who could offer it . The Birth of NearTutors After graduation and constantly inundated with requests for special tutoring, I cofounded  Neartutors , an online platform that connected students with verified tutors for personalized learning and exam preparation. We built it from scratch; with no funding, no high-profile mentors, just an audacious belief that  education access could be more efficient, more personal, and more empowering . Over time, we grew the platform to serve  over 6,000 users and maintained  a  4.8/5 star average review rat...

As one of our capability development initiatives (which spans consulting, corporate training programmes, focus group workshops and tech events) the team at Edgetechies has started the roll out of an intensive IT training program for students of select secondary schools in Nigeria. Led by 'Tunde Ajiboye with years of experience cutting across networking, programming, project management and corporate ICT training, the team has successfully set up functional ICT facilities from scratch in pilot schools to enhance the practical lab sessions of the specially designed training curriculums. The pictures below show classes taking place in one of the pilot schools: Imola College Iju Lagos. The young students are exposed to basic and intermediate level programming and the hands-on use of creative design softwares with mind-blowing results so far in learning outcomes. It is our aim to strategically deploy the self-sustaining model across select schools in the entire nation. The goal of initi...
